About us

The St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) was formed by the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis on August 24, 1993.  It started operating as a Corporation in September 1993.

The Authority was established to provide for the co-ordinated and integrated systems of Air and Seaport services.  It is governed by a Port Act which outlines its operating guidelines eg. duties and responsibilities, structure of Board etc.  The main duties of the Authority, as set out in Port Act, are:

Duties:

  • To operate the Ports as it appears to best serve the public interest;

  • To regulate and control navigation within the limits of the Ports;

  • To maintain, improve and regulate the use of the Ports, and services and facilities therein;

  • To provide the Ports and the approaches with air traffic control services, beacons, buoys, and other navigational aids;

  • To exercise the duties and functions relating to shipping, aviation and navigation;

  • To carry out the loading, unloading, landing and carrying of all goods to and from all ships and aircraft in a Port.

Over 380 employees are employed at SCASPA in the following areas:  Administration, Human Resources/Public Relations, Finance/Statistics, Seaport Operations, Marine Division, Tug Division, Security, Airport Operations, Meteorological /Air Traffic Control/Aeronautical Information Services, Maintenance, and Mechanics/Engineering.
