Renovated in 1998, Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport is widely acclaimed to be one of the best mid-sized airports in the Caribbean. Modern and attractive, the Airport features spacious arrival and departure lounuges, VIP suites, escalator and elevators and ramps for the disabled. Retail stores offer a variety of souvenirs and gift items, and food and beverages are provided by a restaurant and snack shops.
The Airport is committed to passenger and cargo safety and is fully compliant with international security procedures. State-of-the-art baggage and passenger screening equipment, closed circuit television as well as efficient baggage handling technology are evidence of the emphasis placed on safety and security.
Measuring 2,317 metres long and 45 metres wide, the runway can accommodate aircraft up to B747 size, and is designed to handle commercial jets, cargo carriers, private jets and regional commuter flights. Having been further upgraded in 2006, the Airport now boasts three taxiways and parking for eight wide bodied jets.
There are scheduled services to the UK, Canada and the USA as well as many destinations within |
the Caribbean. Carriers include American Eagle, American Airlines, Delta, British Airways, Sky Service and LIAT. Aircraft handling services such as air-start units, high-loaders, passenger stairs, and ground power units are offered on a rental basis.
Air cargo services are provided by a number of freight forwarders including Fedex, DHL, and UPS. Cargo facilities include a bonded warehouse, a transit zone, a domestic-cargo-only zone, an animal quarantine station, a fresh meat inspection area and an express courier centre. There are facilities for handling dangerous goods and exceptionally large or heavy items of cargo.
There are plans to enhance the services and facilities at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport even further in the near future. Passengers can look forward to a refurbished and expanded Terminal, and a private facility (Fixed Based Operation) catering to high-end travelers.
